Larissa Lam (c/o 1993)

While at Diamond Bar High, Larissa Lam was involved in drama and in our United Student Body (USB). She later graduated from UCLA with a degree in business economics. Larissa has gone on to be a singer, songwriter, Chinese American talk show host, music executive, filmmaker, director, and producer.

Larissa wrote, directed, and co-produced the 2020 movie FAR EAST DEEP SOUTH. The movie is about a Chinese-American family that travels from California to Mississippi to visit the grave of their ancestors. They stumble upon surprising revelations. Along the way, they meet a diverse group of local residents and historians, who shed light on the racially complex history of the early Chinese in the segregated South. Their emotional journey also leads them to discover how the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 impacted their family and how deep their roots run in America.

2020’s FAR EAST DEEP SOUTH came after her directorial debut in a documentary short titled, "Finding Cleveland" starring Only Won. Only Won is a hip-hop artist and Larissa’s husband. They reside in Los Angeles. It was during the search for his roots in this documentary that the idea for the feature film “Far East Deep South” originated.
